Bekir Ergüner
Bekir Ergüner

Bekir received his BSc degree in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering from Sabanci University in 2007. He completed his undergraduate thesis titled “Prediction and Classification for GPCR Sequences Based on Ligand Specific Features” in Sezerman Lab. After his BSc, he moved to Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan to pursue his MSc degree. He completed his MSc thesis titled “Characterising common substructures of ligands for GPCR protein subfamilies” under supervision of Prof. Minoru Kanehisa and Prof. Susumu Goto.

At Sabanci University with Sezerman Lab, he is currently working on next-gen sequencing and copy number abberrations.

Ceren Saygı
Ceren Saygı

Ceren received her BSc degree in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering with Chemistry minor from Sabancı University in 2008. She held a research assistant position between June 2007 and October 2007 in Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology, Munich, Germany. After her BSc, Ceren was accepted into the MSc Program in Bioengineering in Sabancı University. During her masters, she worked on durum wheat metallothionein mutants and their biophysical characterization using affinity and size exclusion chromatography, circular dichroism spectropolarimetry (CD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). She held another research assistant position between May 2011 and November 2011 in Max Planck Institute of Developmental Biology, Tübingen, Germany.

She is currently a research assistant at Boğaziçi University and working at Acıbadem University with Sezerman Lab on the functional enrichment methodology to analyze omics data to study aetiology of rare diseases.

Ege Ülgen
Ege Ülgen

Ege received his MD degree from Acibadem University, School of Medicine in 2015. He has been part of Acibadem University Brain Tumor Research Center since 2012, where he worked on molecular biology of Gliomas. He spent four summers as an intern at Gunel Lab, Department of Neurosurgery, Yale School of Medicine where he also held a postdoctoral research associate position between April 2016 – June 2016.

He is currently working at Sezerman Lab on computational oncology, multi-omics and pathway analyses.

Elif Arık Sever
Elif Arık Sever

Elif received her Bsc (2005), Msc (2007) and Phd (2014) degrees from Uludag University in Biology major in Molecular biology. During her Msc and Phd education she worked on yeast genetics and retrotransposons. She has been working as an post doctoral researcher in Department of Medical Microbiology in Acibadem University since 2015.

Also she is having her second Msc degree in Sezerman Lab focusing on genomic data and pathway analysis.

İlknur Melis Durası
İlknur Melis Durası

Melis received her BSc degree in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering from Sabanci University in 2011. She held a research assistant position between June 2010 and October 2010 in UNI-Sars Centre at CBU with Lenhard Group on computational genomics of transcriptional gene regulation. She completed her undergraduate thesis in Sezerman Lab at 2011 on Identification of Transcription Factor Binding Sites in Promoter Databases. Following her BSc, Melis has been accepted into MSc in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering program at Sabanci University. During her masters, she worked on association of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) to the Multiple Sclerosis disease according to their pathway related contexts.

She is currently working at Sabanci University with Sezerman Lab, and has focused on the prediction of post-transcriptional modification sites, microRNA functions and networks and their roles.Her research interests include computational genomics and computational neuroscience. She is also interested in doing any kind of sports :), dancing and travelling.

Nogayhan Seymen
Nogayhan Seymen

Nogay finished his BSc degree in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering at Sabanci University in 2013 with a graduation project on zinc fingers. In the summer of 2012, he was an intern at the University of Bologna, under supervision of Prof. Rita Casadio. There, he worked to improve thermostability of cellulases using protein engineering. He then attended the University of Turku in Finland for his MSc degree in Bioinformatics and has developed a phosphorylation predictor using machine learning as part of his thesis.

He is currently a PhD student in Sezerman Lab, focusing on machine learning.

Zoya Khalid
Zoya Khalid

Zoya is a Pakistani student that received her Masters Degree in Bioinformatics from International Islamic University, Islamabad, Pakistan in July 2012 with a thesis on Gene Expression Profiling. This work was about mining the candidate genes for early diagnosis and better treatment for thyroid cancer patients by utilizing the bioinformatics approaches.

Currently, she is working at Sabanci University with Sezerman Lab for her PhD work since February 2013. Her research interests includes gene expression, pathway analysis, systems biology, and microarrays.

Begüm Özemek
Begüm Özemek

Begüm graduated from Sabanci University with double degree in Computer Engineering and Bioengineering and minor in Mathematics in 2016. She did her internship in KULEUVEN, Vestrepen Lab. She worked with Prof. Batu Erman in her graduation thesis, titled “Detection of gene expression level changes between PATZ1 gene knocked down samples and wild type samples by using raw RNA-Sequencing data analysis.”

Currently, she is a masters student in Sezerman Lab focusing on computational oncology, active subnetwork and pathway analysis.
